Dear fellow-citizens, visitors and guests,

the city Brandýs nad Labem – Stará Boleslav opens its gates this year to pilgrims of the whole country for the ninth time on the occasion of St. Wenceslas’ feast. The pilgrims come to the oldest pilgrimage location in Bohemia to remind themselves the fact that our most important national tradition is still alive and current even after thousand years.

Our city perceives as its honourable commitment devotion to preservation and development of St. Wenceslas’ tradition as well as its share in the National St. Wenceslas’ Pilgrimage in Stará Boleslav. The National St. Wenceslas’ Pilgrimage has become the main event of the state holiday “the Czech Statehood Day” and enjoys high public attention. The visit of the Czech president and the highest state authorities is an honour for our city and for everybody who participates on this large common work.

We welcome with joy our unusual guests and pilgrims from the whole country and from abroad as well as TV viewers and radio listeners. Please, let me, in the name of citizens of Brandýs nad Labem – Stará Boleslav, to wish everyone a nice stay in historical Stará Boleslav and great experiences.

many of you have come to St. Wenceslas with a strong effort in order to pay tribute to our national saint, to remind yourselves of his heritage valid more than thousand years. He rests in the roots of our statehood and he accompanies our nation in all historical events, especially in the most difficult ones. Not only believers turn upon him in such a moment, but also poets, painters, theatre actors, musicians, even plainest people who see in him one of the key figures of our history.

The St. Wenceslas stature has become the consolidator of the whole nation. The nation, which should be aware of its importance, its position in Europe and also of its St. Wenceslas’ thus Christian roots. I would like us all who, with the thought of St. Wenceslas, to unify in prayer not only here but also at the St. Wenceslas Cathedral in Olomouc in Moravia and in other places, to be able to unify ourselves in the endeavor of Christianity recovery in our country.
